CONNECTING YOUR LIFE TO HIS WORD
In the midst of your highs and lows, your busy messes, and your quieter moments you can stop here to quickly reference a LIFElink that will connect you to what you need for the moment.
(LIFELink is just getting started. We hope you will continue to visit over the coming weeks and months as we grow this section of our site.)
I’m overworked and underappreciated and feeling completely unrewarded as a mom!
“Though the cherry trees don’t blossom and the strawberries don’t ripen, though the apples are worm-eaten and the wheat fields are stunted… yet I will rejoice in the Lord, and I will be joyful in God my Savior.” Habakkuk 3:18 (NIV)
Does this sound familiar? You’re probably not dealing with unblossoming cherry trees or worn-eaten apples, but you ARE dealing with a pile of laundry, a week’s worth of grocery shopping, and a TO DO that remains UNDONE! It would be nice to think that someday everything would go smoothly – just the way we want it – but that’s probably not realistic. So what do we do? We make choices. Life throws us a lot of hard things, but it is up to us how we respond to them. Way back when, the prophet Habakkuk chose to do this… “yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
It doesn’t make it all easy. But it’s a nice place to start. It’s a reminder that, while you are not in control of what happens (or doesn’t happen!) you are in control of how you react to it. You have the choice to be joyful in God your Savior. Add that to your TO DO list!
I’m always struggling with my attitude. How am I ever going to help my family handle the reality of every day life if I can’t do it myself!?
“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if there is anything excellent or praiseworthy, then think on these things.” Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
Attitudes. Wouldn’t it be great to get a handle on them? Wouldn’t it be great to celebrate life no matter what the circumstances, the feelings, the size of your bank account? It’s possible, but not in the way you might imagine. If an attitude is what you think or feel about something, then you’re simply going to have to change your way of thinking. Easier said than done! The book of Philippians is “The Ultimate Attitude Adjuster” and this verse is a terrific way to get you started down this new path.
Instead of looking at your circumstances through the eyes of complaints and discouragement, try to find ANYTHING excellent or praiseworthy and put your focus there. Instead of seeing only disappointments in your life, start looking for HIS appointments. A little ”tweek” here and there might be all you need to get an EXCELLENT handle on life.
In the immortal words of The Little EngineThat Could…I think I can, I think I can adjust my attitude!
