Gina’s Scripture Verse Memory Challenge 5

Sorry this is so late making it to the blog! I already took my memory verse test on the air, but I thought I would share this belated post with you anyhow. I hope you are keeping up with you memory verses each week. I would love to hear from you!

Does anyone look at Christians and wonder why their lives don’t match the outrageous claims they make? All day, every day. We talk the talk… but walk the walk, not so much. The fog of hypocrisy is dense!

This is what makes perseverance such a powerful testimony. We tend to regard people who persevere under trial, and ultimately triumph, not because we like “winning” as Charlie Sheen would say. We celebrate and regard perseverance because it is a powerful testament of faith that doesn’t require our muddled words.
Perseverance is an opportunity for our reality to match our theology. It is also an opportunity to give all the credit to God. After all, it is his compassion and mercy that sees us through our trials.
The book of James addresses this head on. It’s like a “how to” book for Christian living. James tells us that it’s not enough to TALK the Christian faith, but we must LIVE the Christian faith.
It was hard to choose just one verse from the book of James because the themes are so rich in importance. Living your faith. Persevering in trials. Understanding the Law of Love, which is all about loving your neighbor as yourself. Thinking before you speak. I could go on and on. But I’ll share my memory verse with you instead…

As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered.
You have heard of Job’s perseverance
And have seen what the Lord finally brought about.
The Lord is full of compassion and mercy!

James 5:11
