My Week 1 Memory Verse is:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
Welcome to our first ever Scripture Verse (Online and On-Air) Memory Challenge!
Okay, I’ll admit it, this isn’t an original idea. My kids do this every week in school and one of my favorite Bible teachers (Beth Moore) just kicked off her own Scripture verse memory challenge online. I’m stealing the idea and bringing it to radio (and our blog) and I hope you will join me.
For the next 12 months, I encourage you to join me in memorizing 24 Scripture verses. That’s only two verses per month! My kids do this twice a week, so every other week should be a piece of cake. I am going to ask Michael to quiz me on-air to keep me accountable. Now I’m really getting nervous! I have never been good at taking tests/quizzes. But I am invigorated by the thought of committing myself to something that I believe could be life changing. Many people focus on diet and exercise at this time of year and they commit to changing their eating habits and to losing weight. That is a great physical health challenge, but I’m suggesting a SPIRITUAL health challenge.
The exercise of memorizing scripture will help us become more consistent and accountable in our relationship with God. It will continually remind us of his presence. As we seek his will and direction for our lives, memorizing scripture will help us come to know Him and acknowledge his ways, instead of our own. Add to that, I cannot think of a single good reason why we shouldn’t memorize Scripture!
Will you join me?
If you do, feel free to use my verse each week, or better yet, chose a verse that is more personal to you. I would love it if you would come to the blog and share your memory verse in the comments section. It will be fun to become part of a community of people growing in faith and in Godly wisdom. Let’s use this place to encourage one another and share our Scripture verses.
It’s going to be a great year!
